Building Human Organs
Oganovo is a company based in San Diego, California.
Their latest science invention is a technology (novogen) which allows living tissue cells to be assembled into patterns and complex structures, such as organs.
Organovo has partnered with Invetech. a company based in Australia, to develop a bio-printer.
The device prints (places) human cells in a three-dimensional matrix to construct human tissue.
"Building human organs cell-by-cell was considered science fiction not that long ago," says Fred Davis of Invetech.
Currently, the bio-printer can grow blood vessels.
It is anticipated that within five years the device will construct arteries and by 2020 sophisticated organs will be built by the device.

The Voice Stick can read any written document such newspapers, books and mail.

Vibrations Relieve Pain
An orthapeodic surgeon has invented a cool new gadget for relieving lateral epicondylitis - commonly known as tennis elbow.
Vibration therapy has proven to be the most effective method for treating tennis elbow as supported by research published in medical literature.
However, the treatment has required large and expensive equipment which is only available in hospitals.
Dr. Vhadra has created a portable, strap-on device that can generate the same low frequency vibrations generated in much larger machines used for treating lateral epicondylitis.
The device, known as Tenease, stimulates blood flow to an afflicted area, which stops pain and promotes healing.
Tenease has been rigorously tested and awarded approval as a medical invention by the MHRA (Medicines and Healhcare Products Regulatory Authority), a government regulatory agency of the U.K. Department of Health.

RCA has developed a prototype of a cool new gadget capable of producing wireless electricity from radio frequencies in the air.
According to a company spokesman at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the device recharged a Blackberry from a 30% battery charge to full charge within 90 minutes.
The handheld wireless device (Airnergy) uses an antenna to absorb energy from frequencies and convert them into DC power inside its casing.
The gadget is then connected via a USB port to charge your cell phone or mobile internet device.
Airnergy charges itself 24/7.
This product is expected to be available later this year.

Creating instant prints from a digital camera is one of the new electronic inventions in printing. The Polaroid PoGo™ is a small portable printer that weighs only a few ounces.
The printer produces full color 2" x 3" prints using an "inkless" technology. The images are created from heat activated crystals in the photo paper. The photos are water proof, tear proof and smear proof.
This new electronic invention connects to a digital camera using a USB cable, or to a mobile phone through wireless Bluetooth. It uses rechargeable batteries or an AC adapter.

Haven HospitaAfter years of investment and development, wireless devices contained in swallowable capsules are now reaching the market.
Companies such as SmartPill based in Buffalo, New York and Israel-based Given Imaging (PillCam) market capsules the size of vitamin tablets that contain sensors or tiny cameras that collect information as they travel through the gastrointestinal tract before being excreted from the body a day or two later.
These new electronic inventions transmit information such as acidity, pressure and temperature levels or images of the esophagus and intestine to your doctor's computer for analysis.
Doctors often use invasive methods such as catheters, endoscopic instruments or radioisotopes for collecting information about the digestive tract. So device companies have been developing easier, less intrusive ways, to gather information.
Digestive diseases and disorders can include symptoms such as acid reflux, bloating, heartburn, abdominal pain, constipation, difficulty swallowing or loss of appetite.
"One of the main challenges is determining just what is happening in the stomach and intestines." says Dr. Anish A. Sheth, Director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Program at Yale-New l.
Doctors can inspect the colon and peer into the stomach using endoscopic instruments. But some areas cannot be easily viewed, and finding out how muscles are working can be difficult.
Electronic pills are being used to measure muscle contraction, ease of passage and other factors to reveal information unavailable in the past.

Dissaya Nu Pornpattananangkul, a doctoral bioengineering student at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) has invented an innovative system for treating acne and keeping skin clean.
The new technique uses nanoparticles (nano-bombs) that seek and destroy bacteria causing acne. The "nano-bombs" use natural ingredients to treat acne without the side effects of burning or the red skin associated with drugs.
These nanoparticles carry liposomes with lauric acid into the skin microenvironment. The nanoparticles locate acne bacteria and the lauric acid then attacks and kills the bacteria.
A liposome is a tiny bubble made out of the same material as a cell membrane and it is filled with lauric acid. Lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid which has antimicrobial properties. It is found in coconut oil, palm kernel oil, human milk, cow's milk and goat's milk. Nanotechnology has created a new frontier for medical inventions.

It works by identifying the vein pattern in the palms of our hands.
Similar to our fingerprints, vein patterns are unique to each individual. The purported advantages of this technology is that it is less expensive, easier to manage, and is more reliable than traditional methods of identification.

Using a process known as electro-wetting, a water drop is deposited on a metal substrate and covered by a thin insulating layer. When a voltage is applied to the metal, it modifies the angle of the liquid drop.
The liquid lens is comprised of two liquids, water and oil, one is a conductor while the other is an insulator. A variation in the voltage causes a change to the curvature of the liquid to liquid interface, which changes the focal length of the lens.
The use of liquids allows for low cost construction. There are no moving parts and electrical consumption is extremely low. The lens has a large inverse focal length range, quick response, high optical quality and can operate in a wide temperature range.

Penggunaan ICT dalam bidang kesihatan terbukti telah diberi keutamaan di kebanyakan negara-negara maju. Sebagai seorang JURURAWAT, kita harus mengetahui bagaimana implementasi ICT dibidang kesihatan dapat memberi kesan dan faedah kepada kita dan pelanggan. Untuk meningkatkan kesedaran dalam pelaksanaan ICT kita sepatutnya mempunyai ciri-ciri berikut:
1. Mempunyai kefahaman mengenai konsep asas bagaimana ICT berfungsi
2. Mempunyai kemahiran terkini mengenai penggunaan aplikasi/ perisian/perkakasan komputer
3. Mempunyai kebolehan intelektual untuk terus belajar sepanjang hayat bagi mengaplikasi kefahaman, kemahiran dan pengetahuan ICT dalam kehidupan dan kerjaya
4. Mudah menerima sebarang perubahan yang wujud dengan pelaksanaan ICT di tempat kerja
Di negara maju, pelaksanaan ICT di bidang kesihatan terdiri daripada doktor pakar, jururawat dan ahli profesional kesihatan. Mereka bergabung dalam satu pasukan bersama pakar komputer untuk membangunkan perisian yang sesuai dengan keperluan di institusi masing-masing. Kejayaan pelaksanaan ICT dalam bidang kesihatan sangat bergantung kepada pengguna yang terdiri daripada doktor, jururawat dan semua ahli professional kesihatan. Penjagaan kepada pesakit dapat dilakukan dengan lebih cekap serta menjimatkan kos. Sebagai contoh, sistem OMS yang digunapakai mempercepatkan lagi keputusan analisa sampel pesakit dilihat oleh doktor dan perawatan dapat dilakukan segera. Disamping itu, keputusan analisa tidak perlu dicetak dan ini dapat menjimatkan penggunaan kertas, dalam kata lain menjimatkan kos hospital. Walaubagaimanapun, latihan berterusan kepada pengguna perlu dijalankan secara berkala bagi memastikan pencapaian ditahap optimum demi meningkatkan kualiti perkhidmatan yang diberi kepada pelanggan/ pesakit.

5 langkah yang perlu dilakukan untuk memastikan bidang Teknologi Dan Inovasi Dalam
Pendidikan dapat dijadikan rutin dalam aktiviti harian antaranya adalah:
1. PEMBELAJARAN AKTIF
Pembelajaran aktif di sekolah
merupakan satu konsep yang ideal dengan pembelajaran masa kini. Oleh yang
demikian, setiap sekolah diharapkan agar dapat mengimplimentasikan serta mengembangkan pembelajaran aktif
dengan sebaik mungkin.
2. KEMUDAHAN ICT
Kemudahan ICT di bilik sumber
sering mengalami masalah seperti kekurangan peralatan ICT, penggunaan ICT yang
tidak berdisiplin di kalangan pelajar, pemantauan oleh penjaga bilik sumber,
permasalahan penyelenggaraan serta masalah pembiayaan kewangan. Permasalahan
yang telah diutarakan boleh dijadikan pemangkin sebagai penghalang kepada
penumbuhan kreativiti dan inovasi dalam system persekolahan. Kemudahan ICT
seperti penggunaan komputer, overhead
projector bagi proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran guru-guru dan pelajar.
Penggunaan kamus Besta atau kamus
elektronik yang lain mudah dibawa dapat membantu serta memudahkan pelajar
mencari sesuatu maksud didalam dua bahasa.
3. PENYIARAN RANCANGAN PENDIDIKAN
Kemudahan penyiaran rancangan
pendidikan masa kini boleh diadaptasikan melalui kemudahan penyiaran ASTRO
dimana pusat penyiaran ini telah membuat beberapa siri pendidikan bagi
kemudahan semua peringkat pelajar sekolah rendah dan sekolah menengah terutama
bagi pelajar yang akan mengambil dan menghadapi peperiksaan besar seperti UPSR,
PMR dan SPM.
4. KEPIMPINAN
Pembelajaran yang kreatif dan
inovatif di dalam sistem persekolahan merupakan satu rangka strategi yang perlu
diambil oleh Kementerian Pelajaran secara berkesan. Pengetua sekolah perlu
membentuk dan memimpin perubahan berasaskan strategi dan kreatif serta inovatif
dalam pengurusan pendidikan sekolah.
5. KO-KURIKULUM , KREATIVITI DAN INOV ATIF
SERTA PENGUASAAN ICT
Prestasi pelajar hendaklah
ditekankan melalui “menghasilkan mutu kerja” daripada “memahami”. Pentadbiran
sekolah hendaklah mengadakan aktiviti yang berkaitan teknologi dan inovasi yang
efektif bagi memastikan penghasilan mutu kerja pelajar dapat ditunjukkan atau
dipamerkan pada pameran-pameran tertentu setiap kali aktiviti dijalankan.
Pengembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi perlu ditingkatkan secara
menyeluruh. Ia merupakan landasan untuk meningkatkan inovasi dan kelancaran
fungsi teknologi melalui kegiatan penelitian, pengembangan dan hasil kerja.
